What inspired my last cigarette
In my life, there have been many moments where I have looked at myself. On one hand that ‘last cigarette’ which I promised myself would be the one that changes my lifestyle from that moment onwards. You think of all those times you smoked. How you had your first one. How desperate you were when you wanted one and couldn’t get. how whenever you were tensed your hands reached out for one of those 70mm sticks or just to pass the time, but as your approach the final few puffs you think this is when I move on with a positive attitude that this is the day I finally get rid of my demon but then comes a moment where you think what harm could one more do. You try to stop yourself from wanting to go back to it but then you feel this time it will definitely be the last one, and then you are again back to square one.
It all begins with either seeing someone you love to do it or just with that feeling where you want to explore what it is all about. You try to copy your favorite movie star’s way of doing it when you see them on celluloid screens not even contemplating that it is a part that they played and they probably aren’t into unhealthy habits in real life.

You truly start to question yourself when you see your loved ones getting affected by the decisions you make. When your decisions aren’t just yours but they also affect the life of someone you hold dear. You start to understand their hate for it. This is when your mind truly starts to prioritize love over nicotine. Not to sound clichéd but love is one of the most powerful drugs out there. The only one that can nullify the effects of nicotine in your body.
This is when those fags lose power over you. It is when you move away from it, you start to realize how it was the master and you were merely its puppet. For you, it might be something very dear, but for it, you were just another person. Once you start to gain the power in this battle, it is a lost cause for the 70mm stick because the one thing it forgets is, that in the battle of mind and the heart. the heart will always win. The cigarette only plays with your mind, but the loved ones, they are in your heart and that is when the heart says one final thing to the brain. You are powerless. I decide how I want to live and the cigarette will know it has lost that final battle and has lost its consumer.
For someone out there who wants to quit, just know that it is no less than a battle but you will surely get over it. You are the one who decides, that stick doesn’t hold power over you anymore.
Simple steps to quit would include as the ones who have been trying to quit would have read over and over but I will still mention a few.
- For heavy smokers, get nicotine gums or patches to get you through the initial days and switch it with regular chewing gums once you don’t feel the need.
- Whenever you feel like what harm would one do, call your friend and just talk it out with them.
- Tell everyone in your life about this habit, once everyone you hold dearly in life knows that you don’t want to continue something, they will help you complete this journey by being your supporter.
- Start working out, exercise is the best alternative to distract you from unnecessary desire to smoke.
Once you let it go, you will start seeing amazing things happening with your body, the first and the most important being You are in charge.
This feeling will give you the contentment you were looking in those few puffs.
it is very hard to ignore cigerate once you get addicted to it.
you mentioned some nice points to get out of it.
Thank you for your support! 🙂
Thanks a lot for sharing! I don’t smoke myself, but my best friend does. It was hard to talk her out of smoking — I could see that her financial was tough that time, and I was sure that cig was one of the non-essentials that she could cut down. She tried to quit but it was not easy. Guess I can share these tips with her 🙂
Theresia, we appreciate your efforts for your friend and we will be glad if we could be of help to your friend in any way possible. Thank you!
I don’t really smoke but people around me are trying so hard to quit it. I will share this with them to give courage more.
Thank you so much for writing about it! :))
