A Different New Year’s Resolutions for you
When was the last time you did something for the first time?
This quote always gets my attention. Okay, we will come back to this later.
It’s the holiday season, the Christmas is just around the corner and 2018 is going to end soon.
Alright, so how was your 2018?
I am hoping to get all answers ranging from Awesome / amazing to just okay, and also crappy.
Believe me, its okay.
We are not talking about this today. Life moves ahead and not backwards.
New year is coming and we all have to take something called new year’s resolutions and we, like every time, won’t be able to hold to that. (Not-So-Fun Fact: 92% people fail to keep their resolution)
Well, let’s just agree to this: Sometimes resolutions are boring.
In most new year’s resolutions, we are forced to do something like : overcome a bad habit or start a new habit or sometimes just things that others want to change in us.
I am no different. I have never been able to hold on to new year’s resolutions more than 15 days. Only once I continued my resolution for 2 months because I really liked doing that but after that, same old me!
Don’t judge me; it is pretty hard to stick to one thing for a long time especially if you also like being a Jack of all trades, like me! 😎 (Not Flaunting)
But I also agree that we should always pick something new to keep our mind and body sharp. It is necessary.
So I have decided to take another approach to this resolution thing.
Rather than sticking to one particular resolution I would like to try different things over the span of year.
THE PLAN
I would be choosing 12 new things to learn in 12 month on 2019. It can be a simple, easy and yet interesting things which do not demand any special talent.
I don’t know how it will turn out but it would be one of the most interesting thing that I have done in last few weeks months. I am already feeling excited for this.
Coming back to first thing I wrote in this article, ask yourself, when was the last time you did something for the first time?
I am guessing, it’s been a long time. This could be your chance to not be boring and make life exciting again. Instead of seating on bed and binge watching on Netflix, you would be doing something different that you haven’t done before in your life.
“Exploring the side roads” saves you from the boredom of being stuck in a rut, it brings anticipation and excitement to every day, and it makes you much more interesting person to be around.
Also, you never know you might discover new passion all because you tried something for the first time. It might look like one teensy-tiny step out of my comfort zone but in the process of doing that you might find something new that you would absolutely love.
What can you do?
Trying something new doesn’t have to be huge and life-changing (although it’s awesome when it is). There are plenty of small ways you can try something new. Perhaps you could try a dancing lessons, guitar lessons, learning card tricks (my favorite), cooking, wake up 30 minutes earlier to be more productive every day for a month, …the list goes on and on.
There are millions of things out there on YouTube that you can learn and start doing from day one.
If you’ve already tried those boring and monotonous New Year’s Resolution, switch it up to this method for 2019 and try something new. I hope you’ll report back and let me know how it goes!
Happy Holidays! 💗
